What Years Are Gen Z? (1997–2012)
Gen Z refers to those born between 1997 and 2012, raised inside fully established digital systems where everything was already connected, available, and in motion.
Age today: 14–29
Entry 05 - Generation z
They didn’t question the system.
They didn’t build it either.
They started inside it.
By the time they arrived, the shift had already happened.
There’s no clear before and after.
No memory of things working differently.
This is just how it is. That changes things.
Field Note
When the system becomes the environment, it stops being noticed.
Everything is immediate.
Available.
Visible.
There’s no real delay.
No gap between action and response.
No time for things to settle and show whether they actually hold.
So everything stays active.
Attention moves.
Identity moves with it.
Adjusted in real time, depending on where you are and who’s looking.
It works.
Until it doesn’t.
Meaning shows up early.
Often before anything has had time to exist on its own.
Reactions come quickly. Framing comes first.
That creates a strange effect.
Everything feels important.
Very little lasts.
System Glitch
Availability replaced absence.
From the outside, it looks unstable.
From the inside, it feels normal.
That’s the difference.
There’s no clear moment where something went missing,
because there’s no reference point for it.
So the focus stays on what’s there.
Adapting.
Adjusting.
Keeping up.
What follows won’t question any of this.
It won’t need to.
